  1. Announcing StepWise NEXTSTEP/OpenStep Information Service:
  2. New service combines WorldWideWeb, Mail  and FTP server
  3.  
  4. PALO ALTO, CA, April 27, 1994 --- WhiteLight Systems, Inc. today
  5. announced that the  StepWise NEXTSTEP/OpenStep Information Service
  6. is officially "on the air".  StepWise employs WorldWideWeb, Mail
  7. and FTP servers to deliver comprehensive information to the
  8. NEXTSTEP/OpenStep community. After one month on-line, the service
  9. is averaging 100 users per day.

  11. The WorldWideWeb is a network of thousands of servers and millions
  12. of hyperlinked files of textual and graphical information.  part
  13. of the Internet, it is accessed through variations on Mosaic client
  14. software.
  15.  
  16. StepWise is a "public Internet station", modeled after a public TV
  17. station.  There is no charge for accessing the Service. Storage of
  18. information is also free, within limits. Members of the NEXTSTEP
  19. community can support StepWise as a Member or Sponsor. Support is
  20. required for StepWise to be a success.

  22. The server currently includes information from NeXT Computer,
  23. independent software vendors, consultants and resellers.  Near-term
  24. additions will include information from news groups, user groups
  25. and publications. Additional services are under development.
  26. Suggestions are welcome.

  28. Scott Anguish, moderator of comp.sys.next.announce and a senior
  29. developer at WhiteLight Systems, is the founder and "Station

  34. message to stepwise@digifix.com with the keyword "index". To see
  35. the StepWise WorldWideWeb home page, include the keyword "home" .

  37. "membership" or "sponsorship". For information about how to access
  38. the StepWise WorldWideWeb server, include the keyword "start".
  39. Spaces are required between keywords.

  42. com/index.html.  Use requires an interactive net connection and OmniWeb or
  43.   Mosaic.
